Meshlab scan to mesh

I have a few files with point clouds. I can easily align them in Meshlab, but could anyone tell me how merge them together into one layer? I'd like to export this alignment as a mesh. Right click one of the point clouds in the Layer dialog and select Flatten visible layers. If you don't hav any mesh just pointsyou must check the "Keep unreferenced vertices" option.

I was trying to merge 5 cloud points in ply format but i have realy no results. First i allinged them and after i ''flatten visible layers ''. But the only thing i get is a merge with verticesno faces and no image anymore. I know this is a rather late response but I've seen that if I export the result and bring it back into Meshlab it's clear that the data is correctly merged -- only the display was in error.

I am pretty new to meshlab.

Click 'Point', there it was. You can represent a digital model by only points vertices and points with sides and polygons vertexes, edges and faces. When you have a Point Cloud you don't have meshes, it means you don't faces and edges. So, when you merge these point clouds you only get point clouds. I would like to create one mesh out of point cloude points xyz that are importent in 10 different layers. Help Create Join Login.

The application Autodesk Recap provides advanced tools for processing and indexing of large point clouds, e. All current versions of Autodesk CAD software release and later can directly work with these indexed point cloud files.

Step 1. Scan your model. The settings for scanning will vary from model to model, and will also depend on your ambinet lighting. This tutorial assumes you already have a usable scan.

This opens a layer dialog box on the right side. On the Layer dialog box, click the Points view. This will show you only the point cloud. Also turn off the Light. This will lighten up the scene removes shadowsand make it easier to see points in the cloud.

On the main tool ribbon, click the Select Vertexes icon. You can now select points in the cloud by holding the CTRL key, and dragging a box around the areas you want to select. Start cleaning up any noise or extra points that were created during the scan that don't belong in there.

Rotate and zoom the model to find all the stray points. Once the point cloud is clean, save your work so far, then on the layer dialog box, right-click the layer and select Duplicate Current Layer. This creates a new layer, but without any color. Select the new layer.

This realigns all the points in the cloud so they all line up coherently and point in the same direction. This will populate the Viewpoint position values. In the "Neighbour Num" enter a value larger than Usually is good. Sometimes the this filter will invert all the points in the cloud, but that doesn't really matter, it can be fixed later. Now we need to reconstruct the mesh. We will use the Surface reconstruction: Poisson filter for this.

In the pop-up box, enter a value from on the Octree Depth. Values below 10 result in a simplified mesh with most of the detail lost. Higher values give better results. Values above 14 seem to crash the app. You can also enter a number from in the Solver Divide. Click Apply. Depending on your PC, this might take a minute or two.We have multiple. Try loading at a smaller density or try to get a piece into meshlabs to see if the format is ok and file size is your problem. Sign Up No, Thank you.Is there a way to import point cloud in Mesh Lab. I want to create a mesh out of it. I am capturing point cloud using kinect. My data file is in. You have to drag the xyz file and drop in the program, the file only has to have the point without the header of pcd file, I don't know if the xyz files with color info are supported by the meshlab.

I am working with xyz files and meshlab works very well. I am also trying to import a point cloud into Meshlab with a view to creating a mesh and then exporting it into a U3D format so that I can add the model to 3D PDF's.

The point clouds we use are huge. We use point tools to export the files in xyz format. The one I am using to practice is 6GB in size with about 20 million points. After numerous tries I have managed to get the cloud to import using an xyz. I exported from point tools with xyz and rgb values. After a fairly long thought process my scene appeared on the screen in Meshlab but as soon as I tried to do anything zoom in, rotate or select any of the menus the program crashed.

Im not to sure if Meshlab has a max node limit, but the speed of its rendering and its capability to store mesh nodes will be limited by your systems RAM. How much do you have? I work with meshes of a similar size and while there is a bit of thinking time between some process its pretty usable with 16GB. Help Create Join Login. Operations Management. IT Management. Creator: Murali Tirupati. Created: Updated: Murali Tirupati - Can Meshlab be used to process scan data of human subjects as opposed to in-animated objects like mechanical parts.

Which scanning systems is Meshlab compatible with? Which input formats can the software handle? What is the output format of the software? If your software can only create a polygonal mesh, then what downstream software do you recommend to render the polygonal mesh created from your software? Is there any plug-in or built in feature to extract polygonal mesh of underlying human body, when the scan data corresponds to a clothed human subject?

Appreciate all inputs. If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:.Meshlab is an open source software program used to manipulate and edit mesh data.

This tutorial will specifically show how to assemble, clean and reconstruct data from a 3D laser scanner. One must use their judgement when scanning the object to be sure to capture enough data to create the best mesh possible. The alligator head used here required around 30 scans taken from various angles. Typical scan sets may be as small as 5 and as large as For scans taken with a calibrated rotary turntable, the coarse alignment steps may be skipped entirely.

However, it is still recommended to do a fine alignment to eliminate any error inherent to the turntable. As with any software, backup your work and save frequently. Did you use this instructable in your classroom? Add a Teacher Note to share how you incorporated it into your lesson. Start by opening the first scan file. Chances are high that the object will be surrounded by a lot of extra data that does not need to be included in the final mesh.

The easiest way to remove this data is to use Select Faces in a Rectangular Region tool. It allows you to use a marquee style selector to choose faces that you would like to remove. This not only deletes the faces, but also removes the underlying point data, resulting a a cleaner mesh and smaller file size. Repeat this step for every scan and it is helpful to save the clean file as a new version, leaving the original intact. Save often! Open up the new clean version of the first mesh file.

This will import the new mesh files to separate layers, similar to an image editing program. Click on the layer icon to open the Layer Dialog window that allows you to view, hide or lock any of the layers.

You will now have three separate layers each with meshes that are not aligned.

Close the Layer Dialog menu and click on the Align icon to open the Align tool. This tool is used to reposition the separate meshes in relation to each other. Click on the first mesh file in the menu and choose Glue Mesh Here.
